My Favorite Books

(Full disclosure, these books contain affiliate links and I will make a very small commission if you purchase from these links)

If I could pick only one book to read After being diagnosed with breast cancer, this would be it. The first tie I read this book was about two years after my first diagnosis and I remember thinking how I would have handled things so differently if I had read it while I was in treatment. This book is enlightening, inspiring and encouraging. I think I've read, and listened to it more than any other book in my library.

Some sequels never live up to the original book, that is not the case with Radical hope. This book is equally inspiring as Radical Remission and includes exercise as a pillar of health, healing and recovery.

My dear friend, mind body oncology coach Erin Sommerville (You can hear more about her in Podcast #3 worked for years with the Simonton Cancer Center teaching the practices that are explained in this book. Erin and Dr. Wirga, also from the Simonton Cancer Center, went on to teach this amazing healing practice in a program called Beat the Odds, at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center in Long Beach, California. I have have been through the Beat the Odds program, and implemented practices from this book in my daily healing practice.

Anita Morjani shares her life story which includes a brilliant insight into how peeling back the layers of social, cultural and familial expectations to uncover her true self led to an incredible healing and full recovery from her terminal cancer.  Love this book!

This book is a gentle, powerful, heart and mind opening guide to understanding that you are not all the thoughts that are constantly running around in your mind. It's an insightful reminder that you have the power to be the observer of your wild mind and decide how to help it serve you in this life.

This book is an incredible scientific and anecdotal dive into how breathing effects our wellness. of course, we need to breathe to stay alive, but breath is so much more profound than that and connecting to breath is a powerful support to your physical and emotional well being.

Compression Garments

Always, ALWAYS consult your physician if you have symptoms of lymphedema. Proper medical support, physical therapy and management is critical and you're worth it. These are not paid advertisements. They are products recommended to me by my physical therapist and that I personally use.

LymphaDivas

When managing lymphedema became a part of my daily life, I was not happy with the hospital looking bandages and garments that I was presented with.

LymphaDivas made this cumbersome, often annoying process fashionable and kinda fun.
NOTE: Some insurance companies do cover all or part of the cost of compression garments, even the fun ones. Check with your doctor for more  information.

Flexitouch Pump

This crazy looking suit mimics a lymphatic drainage massage and has been shown to significantly reduce occurrences of cellulitis in patients with lymphedema.

I use it daily to mange swelling and the massage is very relaxing.

NOTE: Some insurance companies cover all or part of the cost of the Flexitouch. Check with your doctor or physical therapist for more information.
