This is Laura Lummer, the breast cancer recovery coach. I'm a healthy lifestyle coach, a clinical Ayurveda specialist, a personal trainer, and I'm also a breast cancer survivor. In this podcast, we talk about healthy thinking and mindfulness practices, eating well, moving your body for health and longevity. And we'll also hear from other breast cancer survivors who have reengaged with life, and have incredible stories to share. This podcast is your go to resource for getting back to life after breast cancer. Hello, and welcome to episode 56 of the breast cancer recovery coach. I'm your host, Laura Lummer. And I'm super glad that you decided to listen to this episode today, because we're gonna have some girl talk here. Originally, when I sat down to record this podcast, it was a completely different topic. That happens quite a lot with me, I think that I'm going to record on something and then I, I do the outline for it. And I sit down and I start to talk about it. And like what happened this week, I just kind of go that's just not resonating with me. I'm not feeling it. And so I stop, I start, I listen, I start again, I sit here and I went, No, no, this is just not. This isn't resonating with me. This isn't the message I want to put out. And I'm not really sure what it is. So I go back to my list of podcast ideas, and I start looking for some inspiration. And at some point, I just say to myself, You know what, some to walk away, I need to walk away. And just let things happen naturally, because something always comes to my heart. I meet someone I hear something. And I think yeah, that's it. That's, that's what this week's podcast is going to be about. Well, I got in my car, had to run some errands, I get out on the road. And I'm driving down the road. And I am looking at the most spectacular sunset. It is purple and orange. And there are those rays, those triangular rays of light that are just coming out of these clouds and the clouds are lined with looks like silver glitter. And God you know how much I love glitter. And I'm looking at this as I'm driving down the road. And it's so gorgeous, that I want to just pull over and stop and look at it. But I live in Southern California and you don't pull over on a Southern California freeway. But fortunately enough, they move slowly enough that you have a lot of time to admire something as spectacular as a sunset. So I'm looking at the sunset. And thinking I am so freakin lucky to be seeing this right now like this is gorgeous, this is spectacular. It's so beautiful, that it just touches your heart, I know you've seen something like that, too. I know you've seen those sunrises or those sunsets or just something in nature, that gives you that deep feeling of wow, that is powerful and beautiful. And that's when I knew what I wanted to talk about today. So I'm literally sitting here at 930 at night with a glass of wine. I'm just gonna talk just like you were sitting right here in front of me, because you know what, that's what we're here for. We got each other's back, you're my ladies and have want to take today's show, to just inspire you to look for the spectacular, and especially to create the spectacular for yourself. So this week in my revivify program, I do a live coaching once a month. And as we're talking about the subject that's going to come up for the live coaching, which this month is focused on self care. One of the amazing women in my group is super transparent, wonderful. And she puts out this long list of things that she's struggling with in recovery, things that are challenges or blocks to her practicing the kind of self care that she would like to do. And one of the suggestions that I give to her is to schedule her time, the time that she needs for herself. And when something else comes up, she looks at her calendar and she says Oh, I have another appointment at that time and she schedules around it because that appointment is her time. It's her time for what she needs to keep herself together to give herself some peace, to set her goals to just ground yourself for the day. And she's so awesome. I love this woman and she says that I never thought about scheduling things around me.

And I actually love when I hear things like that. Because when I hear someone say something like that, it opens my eyes to ways that I can help them have a fuller life feel better about themselves. And all it takes is just a little tiny bit of a paradigm shift. And that's it, to put yourself as a priority, to say my workout is a priority. My dance class is a priority. My wine night with my girls is a priority. My nail appointment is a priority. And I'm not breaking it. Because it's important to me, whatever it is, whatever those things are, of course, obviously, the ones I just listed are probably close to my heart. And they're things that I make time for. But the reason that we're going to be doing a class on self care, is because we're moving into the fall. And with the fall cons, craziness, right? Family, holidays, shopping, parties, you don't want to go to but feel obligated to show up to parties, you can't wait to get to Halloween costumes, so much happens, and time just whizzes by. Now over the course of my life, after having raised four children, and running around like a chicken with my head cut off. There's something very important I learned about taking care of myself. And not only just taking care of myself, but about how I needed to approach taking care of myself so that I could enjoy everything else that was going on around me. And that thing that I learned is planning. So the class we're going to be doing and re vivify is planning now, for this last three months of the year, October, November, December, these big holiday months, not that every month isn't busy, it seems anytime these days. So you can always do this planning, but especially coming up on the holidays, I want my ladies to be grounded, happy, joyful, and confident in saying, No, I'm not doing that. And yes, I am doing this. And in order to do that, you really need to plan you need to pull out that calendar. And you need to write down the time you need for yourself first. It's like this whole idea of saving the first 10% of your paycheck before you pay any of your bills, right? Anyone who's a big budgeter or financial wizard, they always tell you pay yourself first. Well, that's what I'm telling you now. I want you to pay yourself first with time. Yeah, time for yourself first, first before anything else. Don't cringe. Don't start giving excuses. Don't be sitting in your car saying oh my god, there's no way I have to get this kid here and this kid there? No, there are ways to get kids places I have been there, I've raised four of them. I know. But in order to get them where they need to be to get everybody fed to get to all the parties, and to maintain your sanity. So you're actually really taking in the spectacular Enos of your life, just like the sunsets, the beauty of it, the friends, the amazing food, the great conversations, all the things that are coming, you've got to take care of yourself first. So my podcast comes out on Tuesdays gives you plenty of time to think about this. Because by Saturday, assuming you're working a traditional work schedule or or even if you're retired, start now. But by Saturday, I want you to sit down in your quiet space with a calendar in hand for one hour or 30 minutes if that's all you can squeeze, but at least 30 minutes with that calendar. And I want you to mark off the time that's for yourself. I want you to make the phone calls and schedule the nail appointments and the massages or I want you to block the time that you look at to get your food ready so that you can continue with whatever healthy lifestyle plan you're following as all the holiday parties and treats come up. And as you're doing it as you're doing this planning. I want you to be really honest with yourself about the amount of energy you have about how much you can actually do. Let me give you an example. I love to work out, I try to work out every single day, sometimes I miss a day, and I don't do it because I'm panicked about, oh my god, I'm gonna get fat, if I don't work out, I've already got enough belly to go around. I do it because I love it, it makes me feel good to workout, it gives me energy, it makes me feel like I've accomplished something makes me feel strong, it keeps me fit. And that puts me in a really good mood and puts me in a really good mental place. But I also know that I have to hit the sack by a certain time if I'm gonna get up and work out the next day. Because that's how my energy is, I need a certain amount of sleep. And I'm well aware of that, if I don't get that sleep. Honestly, it feels like I have a hangover, even if I have not had a drop of alcohol. Now, some days, I'm able to schedule my workouts a little bit later in the morning. But if it's my regular workout time, which is 6am, I know that I have to be home at a certain time. So regardless of what I'm doing, if someone wants to meet for dinner or something of that nature, that's great. And I love it. But it's like going out to dinner is one of my favorite things anyway. But I know I have to end at a certain time. And I honor that all the time. Because what's really important to me, is to be able to exercise every day. I love it. So what is it that you love? What is it that's most important to you? And you know what, even if you're not doing it now, what is it that you keep saying to yourself, I want this in my life. I want to meditate, but I don't have the time. I want to exercise but I don't have the time. This is your time. Because time doesn't make more of itself, you've got to make it. So this is the time for you to look ahead today. Now, this weekend, you're going to look at the next three months before they even begin and make time for yourself. Now there's something else that really inspired me to talk about this because I love learning. I'm a lifelong learner, I take courses on things that interest me all the time. And there is a course that I have been waiting with bated breath to get into since the beginning of the year. And it opened up this month, I got into the course it's 10 weeks long. And of course that's going to conflict with holidays, right. But there's so much fabulous stuff for me to learn in this course that I don't want to miss a thing. I'm super excited about it. So I've looked at my calendar, I pulled out my book. And I scheduled the amount of time that I need each day during the week. And it's not every day that I have to have the time. But most days during the week, I do need some time to work on it.

13:03
And they're in there, they're in the book. Because what I want to learn here, and what I want to do with what I'm learning is super important to me. And it's going to set the stage for me working towards and achieving the goals that I have for myself and my life and my business in 2020. And a bit you have something like that to something in your heart. Something on your mind. Something someone's asked you to do that you think wow, yeah, that'd be kind of cool. I'd like to do that. Or something that you've always thought that'd be so awesome to do. Is it a culinary class? Is it a trip? Is it learning a certain craft? It's going away to the mountains for four days and just literally sitting by the Fireside and reading books? What is that dream? And can you either make it happen during these next three months? Or what steps do you have to take what things have to be done in order for you to be able to make it happen in 2020? That's what I want you to plug into your calendar to. Because when I see something like this amazing, sunset is just this glorious, powerful experience. And I realized that I remember I'm reminded that we are capable of anything. We are such powerful creatures you and me and you know what? We've been through traumatic experiences. We've had a hard time life threw us a curveball and I get that. But right now that curveball is even more reason for you to run. Run the bases hit the Grand Slam, because you and I we know something that so many other People don't know, they may say they know it sometimes. But they really don't. They don't understand this precious tentativeness of our existence right here right now on this planet. But you get it, and I get it. And so we know that there isn't a moment to waste, that if you're not happy with the way something is going, this is the time to change it. There is no other time right now is it that if there's a dream you have, if there's a goal that you want, it is now you have got to start taking the steps now. And you take those steps by pulling out that calendar and writing it down, writing down what you need, writing down when you need to do it. I get phone calls, often I get messages and phone calls and have consultations with women who want one on one coaching. And oftentimes, these women are very interested in starting a business that speaks to them. And it speaks to them because of what they've gone through with breast cancer. There's something in them that says, Okay, this happened to me. And because of my experience, I know I have this very special skill that I realized I could use to give back. Because this thing happened to me. And if I put my skill out there and it happens to someone else, it will support them. And that's super important. And there's just something about making it through breast cancer, right that, that it can resonate with you on a certain level and say, Wow, this is how I want to give back to the other ladies that I know, unfortunately, are going to be following in my footsteps. And I love that I love when I get those phone calls. But the thing that makes me sad is as we start to talk it through, I begin to hear the resistance, I begin to hear the fear, I begin to hear the second guessing and the self doubt. And I get that because I had that too. I had that too. I knew what I wanted to do. I knew who I wanted to speak to. And it was so scary. And so that's why I hired a coach. I hired somebody who gave me deliverables and gave me deadlines. And God knows I hate missing a deadline. She gave me deadlines. And when I put out my first podcast, which I literally honestly have never gone back and listened to because I don't listen to my earlier shows, because I can't stand thinking about how awful they might. But it was so important to me not just to get that podcast out there, not just to start up at that podcast was that stepping stone to creating my dream, to creating the online business that would reach so many breast cancer survivors literally around the world. And every month when I see those downloads grow, and I see more countries pop up on the map where people are listening to this show. I think I'm so glad I did it anyway, even though I was scared. I'm so glad I made the time to make it happen. And you have to make the time doing things like a podcast creating a new business. That doesn't happen unless you sit down and you schedule that time. So what do you need to schedule that time for? Is it to create more peace of mind? Is it to build a stronger body? Is it to understand a little more about the nutrition that your body needs to have the energy that you want to have? Well, I'm here for you. I'm your coach today. And I'm telling you, you have a deliverable by the end of this coming weekend, the next Sunday that is in front of you, you'll have that plan set aside for yourself. You'll have that time for maybe two date nights. Maybe it's bath time. Who doesn't love a wonderful bubble bath with lush bubble bars and bath bombs I know I do. Maybe it's setting aside 20 minutes a day to write 500 words for the book that you need to get out of you. Whatever it is. Let me be your coach. Give me your deliverable posted on my Facebook page. When you have it done. I want to know what it is what's important to you. And I want to know that you made the time for yourself to do it. Because this life love is spectacular. And there's so much to be embraced and enjoyed. And the last thing that I ever want to think is that you missed a moment of it because you let cancer take that spectacular illness away from you. Okay, we're not going to do that. I'm not doing that. You're not doing that. From this moment forward, we're going to take this holiday season and we're going to own it. And we're going to make it ours. And we're going to make it the stepping stones to the life you want for yourself to take those first steps for that thing that burns in your heart, or that thing that terrifies you terrifies you get up and do it anyway. Because on the other end of what terrifies you, you are going to be amazed at how wonderful it is. And what a great accomplishment and what a great feeling of satisfaction to know, after everything you've been through, you can still determine to do something like make yourself a priority. And then you can make it happen. You can decide you're going to start a business of your own, and you can make it happen. You can decide you're going to go on a trip, and canoes through the caves that they filmed the Lord of the Rings in and you can make it happen. So is this episode of the breast cancer recovery coach about breast cancer? Hell yes, it is. It's about recovery. And recovery means it's time to let that shit go. Recovery means it's time to examine all the things that you've let go in your life that you haven't made the time for, for yourself. And then now you're going to take those steps toward doing that. Because doing that, and experiencing the beauty in life and the beauty you create. That's what heals you. So I really hope that my sunset inspiration was something you needed to hear. And I truly would love for you to find me on Facebook, Laura Lummer. And tell me what you put on that calendar for yourself.
